Starting July 1st, 2026, the Central Bank of Russia and the country&rsquo;s Ministry of Finance worked together to legalize cryptocurrency payments in foreign trade. This will give exporters a legal way to accept cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin and stablecoins from buyers who are unable to use Western banking platforms.&nbsp;

According to reports, the Bank of Russia hopes to have the policy completed and ready for implementation by July 1st. This policy will cover payments to importers and exporters in countries that continue to trade despite Western restrictions. Russia has been subjected to sanctions since 2022, forcing it to withdraw from SWIFT and mainstream correspondent banking. The new crypto pipelines will provide the country with a workaround that does not require access to US dollar clearing.&nbsp;

It has been reported that Moscow has also been working on this pipeline for two years. Previously, the country conducted a pilot program allowing domestically mined Bitcoin energy and commodity settlements with Asian buyers. The country's finance minister stated that this move is intended to bring existing flows into regulated channels. This policy to incorporate cryptocurrency is intended to improve the country's position in the global marketplace.&nbsp;
The Central Bank of Russia will closely monitor the new policy. Once the 2026 framework is fully implemented, only eight licensed venues will be permitted to handle cryptocurrency trades. Any transfer greater than 100,000 rubles will be reported. Illegal cryptocurrency intermediation is also expected to face penalties starting in mid-2027. Many Russian firms that are currently operating in the &ldquo;grey zone&rdquo; must transition to the eight approved platforms immediately. The alternative is to impose penalties similar to those for illegal banking starting next year.&nbsp;

Who is Jeffrey Epstein?&nbsp;
Jeffrey Epstein was a former American financier who became widely known globally for his involvement in sex crimes and human trafficking. He was convicted of child sexual abuse in 2008 before being arrested again in 2019 on broader federal charges. Epstein was well-known for his extensive social and financial network, which included politicians, business leaders, celebrities, and the global tech elite. He died in federal custody in 2019, and the cause of death was officially determined to be suicide, but the case is still being debated. The most recent document release by the US Department of Justice seeks to provide access to Epstein's correspondence and internal records.

Epstein has been closely following Bitcoin's development since the early 2010s. In a 2011 email, he described Bitcoin as a "brilliant" idea, despite the fact that the technology at the time had serious flaws and risks. During the same time period, Bitcoin's global transaction volume remained low, and its price was just beginning to fluctuate. The email shows Epstein discussing Bitcoin's potential and limitations with several colleagues, including Bill Gates' former technology advisor. Epstein's interest in digital currencies persisted for years, and in a 2016 email to royal advisors in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, he proposed the Sharia Dollar, a new currency concept inspired by Bitcoin but designed to comply with Sharia laws. In the email, Epstein claimed to have discussed the idea with several Bitcoin founders, which became one of the most notable claims in the documents made public.&nbsp;

His involvement in Blockstream&rsquo;s seed funding
Aside from his association with Bitcoin founders, one of the most significant discoveries is Epstein's participation in Blockstream's initial funding in 2014. Blockstream is a Bitcoin infrastructure company that contributed to the development of sidechain technology and the scaling of the Bitcoin network. According to internal emails, Epstein participated in a $18 million seed funding round that was oversubscribed. His personal investment of approximately $50,000 was made through a fund managed by Joi Ito, the former director of the MIT Media Laboratory. Blockstream CEO Adam Back later confirmed that the relationship was only for the initial investment and that any associated funds had been completely divested due to potential conflicts of interest. Blockstream also stated that it has no direct or indirect financial ties to Epstein or his assets at the present time.&nbsp;

The files also show that Epstein was closely involved in the crypto industry&rsquo;s internal information loop. In a 2014 email, Blockstream co-founder Austin Hill warned Epstein and other tech figures about internal conflicts in the industry, including tensions sparked by Jed McCaleb&rsquo;s launch of Stellar. This demonstrates that Epstein was more than just a passive investor; he was also the recipient of strategic information about the early dynamics of the blockchain ecosystem. The name of the current vocal Bitcoin supporter, Michael Sayer, was also discovered in the Epstein Files through third-party correspondence in 2010, long before Saylor became known as a crypto figure. Additionally, Kevin Warsh, a former Federal Reserve governor and candidate for Fed Chair, was on the invite list for Epstein's 2010 event, but there is no evidence of Warsh's involvement in any illegal activity, and his inclusion is administrative.&nbsp;

In the end, the US Department of Justice confirmed that there were no crypto wallets, blockchain transactions, or evidence of Bitcoin being used for money laundering or other crimes in the files. While Epstein is not a major player or central figure in the cryptocurrency industry, these documents demonstrate his close ties to the early Bitcoin ecosystem via elite networking, ideological discussions, and small-scale investments. These findings are important for understanding how financial power and global networks influenced Bitcoin's early development.&nbsp;

Japan recently made a major political decision to dissolve its House of Representatives, as announced by its current Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. This major decision is expected to mark the start of the snap election phase in the country. The dissolution of parliament also ends the lower house's term before its regular term expires, paving the way for a short-term national political contest.&nbsp;
The move to dissolve Japan's House of Representatives began recently, on January 23rd, 2026, with a nationwide vote scheduled for February 8th. This snap election will see all 465 seats in Japan's lower house of parliament up for grabs, making it one of the country&rsquo;s most important political battles in recent years. The decision also immediately attracted public and international media attention. This snap election would be Sanae Takaichi's first electoral test since becoming prime minister in October 2025. Takaichi even publicly stated that she was willing to stake her political future on the election, indicating that the dissolution of the House of Representatives was more than just an administrative procedure but a serious power struggle.&nbsp;
Sanae Takaichi also stated that she would resign immediately if the ruling bloc does not win more than half of the lower house seats in the upcoming House of Representatives election. Takaichi, who is also the president of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, stated that an electoral defeat would prevent her from serving as prime minister or pursuing her policy agenda.

What&rsquo;s the driver of this dissolution of the country&rsquo;s House of Representatives?&nbsp;
The reason is reportedly related to the growing domestic economic pressure felt by the public. The main issues confronting Takaichi's administration are rising prices for basic necessities and the rising cost of living in Japan. According to a recent survey conducted by a public broadcaster, approximately 45% of respondents ranked prices as their primary concern, far outweighing diplomacy and national security.
In this context, the snap election was framed as a means of seeking a re-mandate from the people. Takaichi believed that strong political legitimacy was required for her government to implement strategic policies, particularly in the economic sphere. One promise she made was to temporarily suspend the 8% food consumption tax for two years, claiming it would reduce the burden on households.
Aside from economic factors, it is also linked to the government's midterm agenda.&nbsp; At the end of December, the Takaichi cabinet just approved the largest state budget in Japanese history, worth 122.3 trillion yen. Victory in the snap elections is expected to strengthen the governing coalition's position in parliament, allowing for more efficient passage of this huge budget and strategic legislation.&nbsp;
Additionally, the dissolution of the House of Representatives is a way to handle geopolitical dynamics. The Japanese government is currently addressing regional tensions, particularly those involving China and Taiwan, while also seeking to strengthen strategic ties with the United States. With the Japanese Legislative Assembly dissolved and midterm elections scheduled for February, the outcome of the upcoming vote will determine the direction of Japanese policy, both domestically and internationally. According to a Nikkei survey, Takaichi's approval ratings are currently still at an all-time high of 75%, marking the third month in a row with ratings above 70%

If you use X, you may be aware that many people have recently used the platform's AI feature, Grok, to assist them in creating sexually explicit content. Many people request that the AI chatbot undress a photo of someone they want. While the feature has sparked worldwide outrage, it took quite a long time for xAI and Elon Musk to take actions for the matter.&nbsp;
In the summer of 2025, xAI debuted an image-generator feature with a spicy mode that could generate adult content. In recent weeks, the feature has been used as a "trend" to capture or undress images of random women and men using the platform. It is reported that the chatbot generated approximately 3 million sexualized images over the course of 11 days.&nbsp;
Following widespread criticism, xAI announced that it had implemented technological safeguards to prevent Grok from continuing to edit images of real people in revealing clothing. It stated that the restrictions and measurements would apply to all users, including paid subscribers, and that any sexual content would be strictly prohibited. However, a European non-profit AI forensics organization discovered that Grok could still be used to generate sexualized images of individuals in certain countries even after the restriction announcement. The researcher company also discovered that users can still avoid restrictions by accessing Grok directly from its website rather than through X to create those images.&nbsp;
Fortunately, xAI finally implemented full content blocks a few days later to prevent the creation of images of real people wearing revealing or sexualized clothing, such as bikinis and underwear. The chatbot said, "You cannot reliably generate naked or half-naked images through Grok right now, especially of real people or anything explicit." However, many media outlets and journalists still found it "hard to believe" that xAI and Musk couldn't figure out how to prevent such images in the first place and took that long to come up with a solution.&nbsp;

What&rsquo;s next?
Because of the chaos, Elon Musk issued an official statement on his account, claiming that the algorithms for both xAI and Grok are extremely dumb and require significant improvement. Elon Musk decided to open-source the X algorithm and publish it on GitHub to share code, allowing users to watch his team "struggle to improve it in real time." Musk has also promised to update the GitHub page every four weeks with developer notes, allowing users to see what changes have been made so far.&nbsp;
The recent events on X have highlighted the importance of developing a strong AI model, especially given AI's limitless potential. Given the ever-changing nature of AI-generated potential, tech platforms must be required to take proactive preventative measures to avoid similar "events" in the future, especially on a scale as large as what happened in X recently. Current AI-generated content regulations are also still patchy, making it difficult to combat "revenge porn" and deepfakes.

AI Grok, created for social media X, is currently gaining global backlash for its use in creating explicit images on social media, resulting in the chatbot being measured and restricted.
